Corrie Goes to Kenya

In August 2012, S.A.F.E. was featured in the ITV1 documentary Corrie Goes to Kenya, in which four Coronation Street actors worked with SAFE Pwani in Mombasa to develop a new play and deliver HIV/AIDS education at Coast.

The programme was watched by millions of people. Actor Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie Webster in Coronation Street and who stars in Corrie Goes to Kenya, says: “To get the opportunity to go to Kenya and work with S.A.F.E. was incredible. The work they do is amazing and completely life-changing. We’re being educated about HIV and public health through TV in the UK, but in Africa there is no way of doing that. That is why you need theatre, where people need education the most.”
