Kalume joined S.A.F.E. in 2006, at first to deliver his personal testimonial on his HIV status after performances, then as medical liaison and partnerships officer. In this role, he bridges S.A.F.E.’s relationship to the medical community and manages our referrals, access to services and partnerships with medical facilities and grassroots HIV support groups. After performances, Kalume delivers relevant factual information – such as demonstrating how to purify water – or talks to the audience about living with HIV. He manages our partnerships with stakeholder organisations who work with SAFE Pwani and is involved in programmatic and follow-up work. He likes being able to share his own story with the people we reach to help them in making better choices.
